East Wall

East Wall was a long-term talent development project, which culminated in a large-scale spectacle of dance and live music at the Tower of London as part of LIFT 2018.

Directed by, and featuring music composition by Hofesh, East Wall brought together up and coming choreographers from East London, and a large cast of dancers, musicians and community participants from Tower Hamlets and surrounding boroughs to celebrate East London’s rich cultural heritage.

East Wall brought together a unique partnership between Hofesh Shechter Company and East London Dance, who began working together in 2014. By joining forces with Historic Royal Palaces and LIFT, the partners committed to supporting selected choreographers and worked with local groups through a wide-reaching youth engagement programme.

On 2nd July 2016, we celebrated the first milestone in this long-term project in a one-off scratch performance high above the roof-tops of London. Hofesh curated a world of performance and installation with East London Dance’s most talented and exciting up-and-coming choreographers and dancers. The event marked the closing night of  LIFT 2016  and an insight into the project to come in 2018.

East Wall was produced by Hofesh Shechter Company and East London Dance. Commissioned and presented by Historic Royal Palaces and LIFT.

East Wall was supported by Arts Council England and University of East London.
