deGeneration

Driven by Hofesh’s personal commitment to developing and nurturing young artists, and following over 8 years of research, advocacy, planning and preparation, 2015 marked the successful launch of HSC’s first ever apprentice company: Shechter Junior. From over 1000 applicants, 8 talented young dancers from all over Europe were chosen to take part in this exciting new programme.

The dancers spent 6 weeks in rehearsal with Hofesh and our dancers, learning two of Hofesh’s rarely seen early works – Cult and Fragments – as well as creating Disappearing Act, an electric, energetic work especially re-staged for these gifted young dancers. This new triple bill deGeneration went on to tour in venues across Europe and the UK, receiving critical acclaim.

Shechter Junior also danced alongside our dancers in Orphée et Eurydice at The Royal Opera House, performed in a large-scale, out-door performance for the Greenwich + Docklands International Festival, and created the beautiful, bespoke site-specific piece CODA for the Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia, Italy.

“I’ve learnt so much - how to work in a small team, learn material fast, go onstage however you feel, to deal with tiredness, be responsible and be on time for touring, how to teach a workshop… everything that goes with being in a big international company."
