Burkina Faso
In 2014, we had the unique opportunity to work with the Mali-based dance company Gnagamix in Burkina Faso, in association with the eeg-cowles foundation.
Gnagamix are a dance space and dance company based in Bamako whose goal is to develop creative dance in Mali. Creating a fusion between traditional African and contemporary dance, the company have curated a space and an opportunity for dancers to meet, practice and work together in the local community. Using the relationship between African audiences and contemporary art, they hope to use their dance fusion to encourage cultures to come together through dance.
As part of the project, our Associate Artistic Director Bruno Guillore and dancer Kim Kohlmann, worked together with the Gnagamix dancers to create an original piece for Gnagamix, using and influenced by Hofesh’s style and material.
The piece On the road to Bamako premiered at the Centre de Développement Chorégraphique La Termitière in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The piece was performed by Fatoumata Bagayoko, Mohamed Coulibaly, Fatoumata Diabate, Naomi Fall, Awa Kebe, Bazoumana Kouyate, Adama Mariko and Adolphe Tembelly.
