Made in Girona

“This project was huge and often challenging to manage across 2 countries, in 2 different languages…but it was ultimately extremely rewarding. It was a huge achievement and the result of team work across the whole company. I feel so proud to have been part of it.”
– Lucy Moelwyn-Hughes, HSC Participation Producer

At the beginning of 2015 we were approached by Festival Temporada Alta in Girona, Spain, who commissioned a large-scale participation project delivered by HSC for their local community, funded by La Caixa. In December of that year, a team of our dancers and musicians worked with a cast of 64 non-professional performers aged from 18 – 72 years to create a bespoke version of Hofesh’s Political Mother.

Alongside the rehearsal period, a local film maker documented the process, making a short film about the project which was shown as part of the evening of work in the theatre.

Made in Girona premiered at L’auditori de Girona venue in December 2015 and was subsequently performed at project partner Mercat de les Flors theatre in Barcelona in January 2016.

“It has been such a great experience for all of us. For me, it was important to work in a very professional way and with the aim of working with artistic rigour. For me the interesting thing is to go a step forward to try to do relevant projects not only for participants also for the audience and the sector, in this case the dance sector. It’s fantastic when you see that other people are working in the same way, as you are. Thanks a lot for your work and your commitment with this project.”
